The Sicilian was good. Chicken parm was "okay". But perhaps one of the best Sicilian slices I've had. I got into the place. Not really much happening inside. People eating in the dining area. Person ordering a slice. Quiet. Etc etc. I walk in and I don't even remember if I was greeted, but I just walked up and said I placed an order for pick up. They talked/nodded to one another and boom got my pie and chicken parm. Paid. Done. While I was leaving another guy came in (Caucasian). he walked up and he pretty much was treated like me. He didn't know what he wanted to order. Guy behind the register didn't say anything. lol No recommendation. Nothing. Nada. I only went there once. I mean I felt out of place there, but as an Asian I feel out of place everywhere. So I was like w/e. I don't think they are Racist. I think they don't give a flying f*ck about what other think of them. Look at most of the reviews "service sucks but pizza is awesome". EVERYONE KEEPS GOING BACK! And so will I.

I've been coming here since I was a little girl and the pizza has been consistently amazing! So glad they started delivering!

I have been a loyal & faithful customer to Donna's Pizza for almost 30 years. (And I can't say that about too many things in life, because I'm not yet 30.) Their pizza is hands-down the best slice you'll ever get -- on *both* sides of the Hudson. The Sicilian slice is complete heaven. And their catering service has some of the best Italian food you'll ever have the pleasure of eating. Eggplant Rollatini, Chicken Parm, Sausage & Peppers ... oh. my. goodness. (They've catered about 25 years' worth of my birthday parties. Trust me on this.) I can't say enough about the quality & authenticity of the food coming out of this kitchen. Donna's has long been a favorite of my family. And if any of my friends visit, asking for a "real" NYC slice, I'm bringing them here. If you're looking for quality pizza, you had better point your GPS in this direction. --------- This "preferential treatment" or bias or whatever is completely unfounded. I was debating whether or not to address it ... I'm Asian, and my family & I have received nothing but exceptional, professional, and respectful treatment from both the employees & the owner of Donna's for, as I said before, at least 30 years.

I understand that service can vary - depending on who you deal with -, but as a korean walking in there, I got my takeout order with ease. When I also walked in for some slices, service was fast. I wouldn't say it's the nicest customer service, but it did the job for a pizza joint. As for the pizza: pizza was awesome, toppings were plenty & real. They used real chicken thighs for example. The dough was supreme, and cheese to sauce ratio was near perfect. IF having a good customer service is a number one in your list, go someplace else, but other than that, they make good pies.

I'm giving 1 star because the pizza is alright but the service is absolutely horrible. They're either racist or they're just rude people. I walked in and for 10 minutes I was standing there without any help. When u tried to order, the owner kept telling me to wait. Then after I ordered 4 slices of pizza, he didn't let me know he took the order or anything so again I just stood there like an idiot. There were at least 5 or 6 customers who came after me and they all got their pizza. I'm also uncomfortable with the fact that he touches money and then touches the toppings to my pizza. My 4 slices took 30 minutes. I will stick with Brooklyn pizza in edgewater.

I Love Donna Pizza!!! I love the owner and the workers! They are super nice and friendly. I like how they have accommodated the menus and translated the menu because Palisades Park is heavily populated with Koreans. I used to work there back in high school and I love how they treated their co-workers like family!

I asked them if it is donna or johnny when I called because I wasnt sure. I intended call johnny but they answered they are johnny and their menu has been changed since. When I got delivered I was shocked that it was donna and called them righy away and they (she) refused to talk to me than hung up on me. Nothing came as what I ordered since they were not on menu but they pretended they had. I have seen donna for more than 10yrs in pp but no more For me and my friends. There was time that I enjoyed donna but with this incident I and we are not going to eat from there now on. Bye bye

Average pizza point for an area dominated by Korean restaurants. Nothing special unless you live in the area and are craving pizza and don't want to drive out of the way for a slice. Nothing to rave about. It's sort of difficult to mess up pizza. A decent pizza you can rely on. One of the main things I didn't like was the guy behind the counter. He just seemed like he might have a chip on his shoulder or maybe that's just his NJ swagger. lol. Enjoy.

Best slice in Jersey? Negative. Best slice in Bergen County? Not even close. Best slice in Palisades Park? More information needed. I've been to several dozen pizzerias in Bergen County and Donna Pizza does not stack up against those I've given a 4-star rating to. The regular slice is limp and has a neutral flavor. The saving grace is the Sicilian and the Tomato & White slice. Both are good, not great, just good. The ordering process is a little flustered if there are several people in front of you. It's basically done on the honor system. Not as hectic as say, White Manna in Hackensack, but you better pay attention to who was there before you walked in. If you own a car, then take a drive into Fort Lee, there are two pizzerias that execute at a much higher level. Review my Bergen County-Pizza list as a reference. You can do better...

If your looking for a good pizza place in this area, look no further. This is my go to place on Friday nights. They have the best pizza in town, bar none. We always get the pie with half sausage and a large order of muscles in sweet sauce. The sauce for the muscles is excellent, I always put it on my pizza too. The regular food is good too but you go here for the pizza. They've been owned by the same family for a long time and they no how to do pizza. They also make a mean calzone and a good cold antipasta. The sauce for the calzone is very good and they do not chince out on the cheese or the meats. You will love it!

I have to say, this is probably the toughest review I've had to write so far. There are so many die-hard fans of this place that I couldn't help but feel a little biased towards the 5-star review as I was writing my first draft. If my scope was limited to Bergen County, then sure, Donna Pizza will likely win the title of a 5/5 establishment, but in the grand scheme of things, this place is just an average pizzaria compared to some of the amazing joints up in NYC. First of all, the service at Donna's always makes me a little uncomfortable. I don't know if this racism or bias thing is true or not, but I have yet see a smile or hear a friendly "enjoy your meal" from any of the staff; I'm almost always welcomed into Donna's by silent stares. But even disregarding the service, the overpriced food is nothing spectacular. I personally found the pizza to be too doughy and a little greasy, including their famed Sicilian slice (although I did end up enjoying it). Some of their other menu items, like the mussels and pasta, were more appetizing. To summarize: If you're craving a decent slice of pizza near Pal Park and you're not too sensitive to service, I would recommend Donna Pizza. If you're anyone else, there are plenty of good pizzas up in the city.

I've gotten sick eating here. That's really all the justification you need to slam a restaurant with a 1 star review, but if you want the whole nine yards... Read on. Rudeness can be overlooked if the food makes up for it, especially at a pizza place when you can easily take your meals to go. It can even be sort of charming. If pizzerias were like pro wrestlers, a great pizzeria run by a rude staff would be like The Rock. I mean yeah, he's a jerk... But he's a really cool jerk. Di Fara's in Brooklyn would be like The Rock. Donna's would be the midget sidekick that gets his head locked in between a sumo wrestler's butt cheeks and slammed with a trash can. The food sucks. The only way this place even survives is because there's no competition on Broad Avenue. It's the only game on a block that is in dire need of a pizzeria that produces edible food. I've dined here multiple times, rarely out of my own free will, and every time was a disappointment. Their pizza is overpriced, undercooked, and way too doughy. Their sausage and peppers hero is bland, and worse, the sausage has a distinct, watery flavor which means it hasn't been properly cooked. And the service... I've tried to be nice every time I come in. I say hi, I say thank you, and I even say goodbye and thank you again for the food before I leave. Not a word out of them. However, whenever a white customer walks up the counter, the staff is all smiles. How curious. I recommend Hanky's on E. Brinkerhoff, Johnny's in Bergen Boulevarde, and Dante's in Ridgefield Park over this place any day of the week. The pizza in those places is... Well, good. Johnny's also has excellent pasta dishes and sandwiches. Your money will be going towards better people and, more importantly, much, much better pizza.

I'm a huge fan of Sicilians slices, and I work in the area. I kept hearing good things about this place, so I decided to try it. I personally wouldn't go there again. When I walked in there were two men in the front and they were talking.. one of them looked at me and smiled, still not asking me what I want. I proceeded to make my order, and he continued to talk so I kept quiet and he told me Oh, I'm listening. Ok, that's rude for one! You were speaking with your co-worker which personally you're able to do that whenever... while Im there you should be attentive of me, your customer. Anyway, I ordered a sicilian and a snapple. Snapples are $2.00? I mean I personally feel that's over priced. Long story short, the sicilian was nothing I would talk about , or even lick my fingers after. It's ok. Nothing GREAT like I've been hearing. That's just my opinion tho.

  • Mike K.

The people who run this place are extremely rude and disrespectful. I'm not quite sure if it's racism but their customer service definitely crosses the line, past the "gruff Italian faux New Yorker" attitude. I called in to ask if they started delivering again as everything was returning to normal after the storm. They gave me this deafening silence, put me on hold, and then hung up on me. I called again, and the same person pretended not to understand what I was saying. She knew it was me, and I could tell by her voice that she knew what was going on. Confirmed everything. Only thing they had to do was say no. I would've simply picked up the pizza and gave them my money. Their disrespect for the community is well-documented. Sure, the pizza is good but is it worth the contempt (and alleged racism in response to the influx of Koreans who've revitalized the neighborhood)? I'm definitely not going to support an establishment who goes above and beyond to treat others like shit.

Being a Korean growing up in Palisades Park I almost feel obligated to defend my turf... but Donna's is more than a casual dinning experience or Tuesday Night pizza run for our family. They have the hands down best pizza (yes I've been to Hoboken and East Rutherford, and other towns with much less memorable pizza houses - just my preference) in New Jersey. The staff can be rude and cold, but this is a hole in the wall heaven. You are not paying 2 something for a slice to be treated like a celebrity. Go pay 20 someward dollars at a nice sit dow for that. If you are a foodie and love food, you have to try this place. If you happen to be Asian and demand respect, honestly go somewhere else where you won't feel intimidated. I honestly do not have a problem with the staff, mostly because I knew them for over 15 years and had a conversation with them. If you watch them closely, they treat anyone and everyone that they don't know the same way. So please don't be offended, they are not trying to offend the Asian community, they try to offend every community (just kidding... well sort of) With that being cleared, here are my fav's: Sicilian - Because I grew up on their Sicilian, every slice I had elsewhere gets compared and is a disappointment Shrimp Parm - Nice and wonderful, with good proportion Regular Slice - Nice solid with great sause and even better crust (almost comparible to Bleeker Street Slice, I prefer Donna's cause it's less crunchy but solid tase) Oh man... the whole menu... just try it, you will not be disappointed.

Having recently moved back to NJ, I looked up Donna's pizza and was really surprised to find this line in a review (praised by Donna's management, no less) posted more than a year ago. I sent a request to YELP that it be taken down, as I believe it should've been a long time ago. ---------- My message to YELP: Quoting from a review dated 3/27/11: "Just remember who fought in the Korean War to ensure their safety and give them the free and democratic lifestyle they enjoy!" YELP, I can't believe you would actually allow a post that contains that statement to remain up on this website. I ask that it be taken down out of respect for your readers - not just the Korean and Asian American ones, but every American who realizes that this is no longer the 1950s and it's no longer acceptable to write something like that on a public forum. ---------- Note: The post I flagged was written in response to several reviewers who complained that Donna's treats Korean/Asian American customers poorly compared to white customers. The reviewer was contesting this, arguing that he's not a racist and that Korean storeowners are sometimes also mean to whites. Everyone's entitled to his opinion, but that doesn't justify this kind of statement. The Cold War is over. And this kind of statement is no longer okay. I haven't been into Donna's pizza recently, but if this review is still hanging on the wall, I respectfully ask that it be taken down.

This is one of the oldest pizza restaurants in Palisades Park. If they want to improve their business, they should be more focus on customer relationship. They could double their business if they accept there is a lot Koreans. They should learn how Anthony Pharmacy does their business. If you are not willing to change, you are history

I really don't know what people are raving about here... I wanted to use my $25 to support Donna's Pizza (for Amex's "Small Business Saturday") because of the other Yelp reviews.. But MEH!!! I really wish I went to Linwood Pizza in Fort Lee instead! There was so much salt and grease on the sicilian pizza that I woke up incredibly parched... Very disappointed. Maybe this place does well because it's one of two pizzerias in all of Palisades Park?

I'm a huge fan of Donna's Pizza ever since I moved back to Palisades Park. I usually get extra cheese pizza and it always hits the spot. I've also tried most of their appetizers and some of the baked dishes and they were all satisfactory. Price is on the more expensive side but I don't think anyone will regret spending few extra bucks once they try Donna's pizza. I am kinda surprised by some of the comments here. I agree that the customer service here isn't the best but nobody came across rude or being racist against me. They take in my order and ring me up for my food when it's ready. I do not expect anything more from a local pizza store staff.

I find the reviews here amazing, people are calling racism. One. Yes the owner and staff could use some training on how to be sensitive - bit honestly they dont have to, you order something they deliver - if you want a smile then go somewhere else, if you want the best darn sicillian slices in bergen county, come to Donna's. Two. The food is amazing, the parm cheese is to die for I always hog a canister for my table yes its that good - guess what the staff doesnt get mad. Three. Place is clean and prices are doable. This isn't a dating service, its a business!

The "Bro" culture is rampant here where manager wants to be a tough guy. The pizza is mediocre -- just a lot of sauce. Donna should be there making the pizzas again.

Their pizza is probably one of the best I've tasted in America. I came from Korea when I was 8 and thought all pizzas are created equal when I first tasted it here. I was wrong. I've tried many different places across all parts of the world and nothing got close to this place. (exception of sweet potato pizza from Korea pizza hut that cost 40 dollars, that was really awesome) I agree that the folks here are not the nicest people in the world, but they do make great pizza and I respect them for that. I actually played little league baseball with Donna Pizza and all of them were nice people. We ate free pizza occasionally when the team won. I remember us having won second place with Donna pizza and I cried because we couldn't get first place. Good memories with them.

The sicillian slice is the best! I would highly recommend it. The bread is soft and crunchy, the cheese is gooey and the flavor is just right! The pizza pies here are just ok, they are way to greasy. Would not recomment them.

WAAAH, they have an attitude...WAAAAH, they don't notice me when I order a pizza for pickup...WAAAH, I think they're racist because they speak old school NYC/NJ english only!! The moral of the story: WHO EFFIN CARES??!!! TAKE PROZAC IF YOUR FEELINGS ARE HURT, DAMN! Treat me however you want...if you're gonna sell me a pizza pie that'll transport me back to my days as a shorty growing up in the Bronx playing arcade games afterschool at Joe's Pizza (RIP)...I grant Donna himself carte blanche to treat me like an uncurbed dog. Yes people, that's how good Donna's pizza is. I always felt like I had to order any Jersey pizza pie with extra cheese to come within 50% of the taste I grew up on in the Bronx. No need to order an extra cheese pizza here, a regular pie will yield enough cheesy strings to tie 10 pairs of shoes. All that and the sauce is not sweet, but zesty and flavorful nonetheless. Let's be clear..this Bronx palate does not like his pizza tasting like Heinz ketchup..maybe North Jersey likes it that way but I don't...and gladly, neither does Donna's With this said, I can't extend the 5-star rating to their entrees yet, as I've only had one so far and it was the shrimp fra diavolo...tasted like they dumped two jars of crushed red peppers into a disappointingly pasty sauce. No worries, might've been a bad day..everyone's allowed an "off-day" so I'll give another entree a shot whenever I get over this pizza orgasm. Then again, people I know have told me "you go to Donna's for the pizza and nothing else." I prefer one-stop food spots, so I'll update this review the next time I have a dish from here. And knowing that the joint's been open since 1965 is a gift and curse: you know it has to be the stuff of legend being open that long...yet you worry that the day is coming when the next time you order from Donna's you'll be greeted by a sad sign saying "THANK YOU PALISADES PARK FOR 45 YEARS!"" Donnagio's better raid Donna's kitchen and salvage the food supplier listings on their last day of business.

Ordered Pizza, wings, and garlic bread for delivery, besides the bill being $45 the food was terrible. Pizza was dry and cold, it had no flavor at all. The wings tasted like they came out a frozen food bag. The garlic bread was cold and hard. I will not be ordering from them again.

In the best hotels in Washington D.C you are advised that if you want good pizza:"get on a plane and fly to New York City." Wrong! Get over to Donna's Pizza in Palisades Park! We so often get out of NYC and just come here for our pizza cravings. Just wonderful.

Drove into New Jersey for the day to check it out. We came here because it is my husband's friend's favorite childhood pizza joint. Ordered a slice of cheese pizza. The best pizza I've had while visiting New York--hands down. But the place could use a facelift.

  • J. L.

the pizza is OK. but the crust is far too doughy. i prefer my pizza easy to fold with a 1:0.4:1 crust to sauce to cheese ratio, and the whole of it needs to be thin. even if it is just a slice, the cheese should never be hard. the slice should be piping hot. the outer layer of the crust should be crisp, and the inner part should be chewy and moist with sauce. so the second time i went, i ordered a whole pie.. and the crust was still very doughy and too thick. oh well, i give up. other minuses: the kid who cleans the tables might think about clearing the tables every now and again instead of sitting there watching the TV. the management might ask the cops to sit down and eat sometimes so that others may more easily order at the counter. (well, i guess we're all scared of the pal park cops.) but i haven't even seen another pizza place on broad so this'll have to do.

This right here was my Child-Hood. I grew up eating Donna's Pizza ever since I was in 1st grade and first moved to Pal-Park. Hell, I even played for their baseball team in Little-League. Man, what I would do for a slice of their pizza. I moved out to Cali. and I'm not even joking, I miss this place every-single day. Not 1 pizza out here in Cali can compare to the memories I had eating at this fine establishment. I can't even express the amount of Joy I have knowing that it is still up.

Simply the best pizza in the entire universe... Alright... Pizza fans will bicker... thin crust vs. sicilian... New York vs Chicago... pepperoni vs sausage. But for me, this place is second to none. I grew up loving this pizza and it is (sadly) one of the few things left in Palisades Park that still remains unchanged. Maybe the slices are a wee bit greasy... but the fat is where the flavor is!! The sauce isn't overly sweet yet filled with flavor. The cheese is just salty enough and the toppings are fresh and traditional. You want sausage... you get real sliced sausage... not those crumbly little sausage balls you get at lesser domains. And personally I love the thin crispy crust although the place is known for its Sicilian slices. They make a great anti-pasto and some very fine parmigiana. But it is really the Pizza that is the tops. I moved to California almost 20 years ago. Every time I come back to Jersey this is one of my first stops. And there is usually a second and third visit before I leave. I can't wait till my next trip...

As I Realtor, I discovered Donna Pizza by accident while driving on Broad Ave on the way to an appointment. Needing a quick snack, I popped in for a quick one slice reheat and was quite surprised! Been back a few times for quick reheated slices. They haven't disappointed me yet!

Food: 2.5 Service: 3 Ambiance: 2 Overall 2.5 The pizza is ok, not comparable to nyc. Prefer a papa john's over this place. Mike is a nice guy and he seemed really non responsive initially but we started chatting and he warmed up a lot.

used to be my go to place for a slice when in town but it has slipped over the years - make no mistake still one of the best old-school slice joints....

    1. ANY pizza you get is pretty awesome. 10/10 Stars. I love sausage, onions and bacon. 2. Pastas I haven't tried any so can't rate it. 3. Only hot sub I tried was suprisingly.... bad. Veal Parmagiana, stay away from it, it's tough and dry. Like beef jerky. Will try 5 different ones before I come back to finish the sub ratings (Get it "sub" ratings, below the main ratings... haha... ah... nevermind). 4. Salads are yummy. Support this establishment, it's a real find for italian food in Pal Park. Oh just go there for the food, try not to read too deeply into people working behind the counter, they are nice once you get to know them, yes I'm asian. I've been treated poorly and well by every kind if establishment, conclusion, feed your belly and go. :) Laters.

It's pretty good. But I lived in New York for twelve years and have had a lot of good pizza. Like I said, it's pretty good.

You will not find a better sicilian slice around. The regular slice is tasty as well, but the sicilian is the reason I go here. While it's true the people who work there are kinda douchey, I will not let that lower my rating of this place. I don't go to Donna's to make friends with the staff, I'm there to eat delicious pizza. So get one regular and one sicilian slice (as another reviewer also suggested) and I guarantee you you'll leave full and happy.

As G.P. noted, you definitely get the impression of preferential treatment for white people. Their service is minimal. The guys behind the counter barely flashes a smile as they slide the pizza across the counter to you. But on taste alone, the pizza is good for the area. It's not the best you will have but the pizza crust is crunchy and crispy (a definite criteria for me) and the overall pizza dough is not too thick. I usually stick to plain cheese slices but I have spied some of the pasta dishes that people eat inside which looks pretty good. If you're craving pizza and you're in the area.. well let's be honest, it's going to be your only choice! It's a good thing it's pretty okay.

This is the fourth time I'm posting this review. It had been removed for the fourth time on February 4, 2011. Apparently, yelp doesn't like my review because I alleged racism. Remember, I am the victim here. The Italian employees of this pizzeria are racist towards the Koreans. It's simple. I posted my personal experiences like with this restaurant just everyone else. I did not ask to be a target of racism or favoritism. Go blame Donna's Pizzeria if you don't like this review. Maybe, they should change their business practices. IT'S NOT MY FAULT THAT THIS PLACE IS RACIST. ***Originally posted three years ago*** Totally overrated pizza. The pizza is probably better than the average NYC/NJ pizza but I still wouldn't eat it anymore. Plus, the guys who serve it are either rude or don't give a crap. Here's an example: Me - [I walk in and was ignored by the very rude employee behind the counter. I probably could've just stood there for ten minutes before he said anything. I had to make him look at me.] "Hi. I ordered a pie to go." Rude employee - "What?" [Seriously. What else could have I said? 'You won the lottery; your fly is open; aliens just landed in your town; your house burned down.'] Me - "I ordered a pie to go." Rude employee - [sigh] "That'll be $18." [WTF is he sighing? I'm giving this fracking tax evader cash money.] Me - "Thank you." Rude employee - [No response and he walks away.] Me - "Have a nice day." Rude employee - [Still no response.] This has happened to me and some other friends every time we went here. It's not an isolated incident. They can care less about you. I've noticed that when a European person (that's white) walks in, they get preferential treatment like actually being greeted like a normal person or customer. I wonder why that is considering the pizzeria is located in a predominantly Asian neighborhood. Are they tired of taking money from the Asians? I hope they realize that if it weren't for the Asians in this town, along with a host of other bullsh|t communities in Dirty Jersey, it would be a waste dump. The Asians revitalized Palisades Park. It had nothing going for it before when it was run by the other European ethnic group - take a guess. Obviously, you don't have to take my word for it. There is another yelper who agreed that Donna's Pizza shows preferential treatment. That review can be found in the filtered section at the bottom of this page. I wonder why it's in the filtered section and not on the main page???? Hmmmmm. More censoring by yelp. Anyways, take your money elsewhere like Presto's in Fort Lee or Trattoria La Sorrentina in North Bergen.

OMG, I found Donna's via YELP. We had just moved here and we wanted to feed the movers. Even though, it's a little pricey, it's well worth the $. Sadly, I've been there 4 times in the span of 2 weeks. I've become a pizza junkie now! As for the personality, each time we've been there, they've been SUPER NICE. One man told me all about the area and the actual Palisades Park Amusement Center. So NICE!!!

My boyfriend introduced me to this place after I challenged him on a claim that this was the best pizza ever. I surely thought I would have beaten him, but the smart*ss was right. This is the BEST pizza EVER in the area. In a town where it is predominantly Korean stores and restaurants, this place is doing well for itself. My parents went after I wouldn't shut up about it either. They said the salad was awesome, and the pizza to die for. Order a pie one night.. it speaks for itself :)

I have been having Donna's pizza for my entire life and it is still just as good today as it was 27 years ago! The regular pizza is incredible and worth every penny. The Sicilian and White Pie with tomato and garlic are both excellent. I also enjoy the eggplant parm dish. The Italian salad is huge and comes with homemade bread on the side. They also deliver (a relatively new service). If you want REAL pizza then this is place to go!

  • Marianne S.

Returned for their pizza which I have not had in several years, and I must say it was even better than I could remember it being. The cheese had a nice texture and flavor to it, the sauce had a fair taste to compliment the cheese, and the crust brought a good thin style texture and had a crispy feel to it. Big slices for the price. Overall I am impressed enough to return and try something else off their menu. Cannot go wrong here!

everyone knows that the pizza here is awesome, especially given the fact that it's located in pal park. but what a lot of people don't know is how good their antipasto salad is here. generous portion, fresh without fail, lumps of meat and veggies all around. definitely try their pizza, obviously, but also order a salad to share!

I try and frequent mom and pop stores and restaurants as much as possible because I feel that chain restaurants are putting the little guy out of business. That being said, Donna's pizza makes that very hard to do. I've ordered from them once a week for almost 3 years. I always order for delivery and several times my pizza has arrived cold (I live 5 minutes from the pizza place). When I've called to complain, the owner has been gruff (putting it mildly) and basically told me too bad. I've let that go in the past but tonight (Superbowl Sunday), when I tried to place an order, I was told it was an hour wait for delivery. I said no problem I wasn't in a rush. I was then told by the kid on the phone that my house is suddenly out of their delivery area. I asked to speak with the manager and the kid said his manager was too busy. I complained that I didn't understand how all of a sudden, my house is too far (less than 1 mile) to deliver to. My problem here is really with the customer service. The pizza is decent - not as fabulous as many claim but not as bad as others claim. The reason I order from this place is because I like to support the "little guy." Donna's has been around for a long time and most people know what they're getting with a cranky owner and not the brightest kids answering the phones. However, if you've been in business this long, I would expect that you anticipate Super Bowl Sunday will be busy. HIRE MORE DRIVERS! Just really poor business practices. I'm really disappointed in the owner. With this kind of customer service, people will be forced to give their money to the chain places that can accommodate their orders. Shame on you Donna's pizza. You've lost my business and the business of all of my friends that used to order from you.

Regular slice is awful, Sicilian is great. The workers are awful and there is no variety, I came for lunch and they only had regular and Sicilian slices. I don't think I'd come back.

    (2)
  • Rose N.

Pizza was good but very greasy. Overrated, in my opinion. But the Italians behind the counter were polite, if reserved. Overall, the pizza was better than what you get from the chains, but not as good as you would get from lots of other family-owned pizza places all along the East Coast.

  • Junior S.

Everyone who works here sucks. The pizza doesn't. The sicilian slice is simply amazing. BTW, I have no idea why they are listed as a "pizza center" on here. When you arrive, you'll notice it's just called Donna's Pizza.

ordered a pie half plain half sausage and pepperoni. average at best and slightly undercooked. the sauce lacks juice.

Give me one regular and one Sicilian and I'm a happy boy. This place is a dump but makes some of the best pizza, especially the sicilian. Everytime I come home (I live on the west coast) Donna's is a must.

I grew up on this pizza! When I come home to visit, this place is a must. Tasty sauce, fresh cheese, decent crust. Yum!

Best Sicilian within 25 miles, the regular pie is very good as well but the sicilian is the prize. Homemade dough, great sauce and cheese, but (here's the kicker) light as a feather, just a touch heavier than a tradional "grandma's pie", that I cannot seem to find anywhere in Bergen County.

Am here to respond to the Korean customer's rip, and the white person's defense of Donna's. I am a white haired white person with a lingering MW accent and I actually like the north jersey brushoff I have been getting...for 25 years! At least one of the counter guys actually has a wryness about him. I am very aware of the potential anti-Korean mood of Pal Park, and happen to be an occasional customer of the fairly cool and friendly Korean Paris Baguette a few doors away....AND: it was a Donna's aproned guy who first told me about it and semi-recommended it. I have looked for evidence of anti-Korean treatment at Donna's and not particularly noticed it. Unless you are a charter customer born and bred in Pal Park with a Jersey accent you will get a shrug and the bill, but you know what, it toughens me for the outside world. The pizza is quite good, not cutting-edge or thin crust, no goofy ingredients, and not cheap; and the hot heros are good for two meals...which I have told the countermen about, risking a 'what a wimp' wink from one to the other. Am about to go for a pizza, with my guard up, but have noticed that despite the sign telling customers not to bother the help, the wry guy and I have actually had a few good exchanges. There is a young woman who works the back and the phones who is from appearances perhaps a Latina so that is encouraging. But maybe the big sign on the outside NOW FREE DELIVERY could come down after how many years?

Great Pizza !! I tried the Sicilian with pepe and Jalapenos. Only wish it came in a smaller size because I could only finish half, and I was blown. It's a little pricey

Pretty terrible service, and the previous reviews are right, if this wasn't the only pizza spot in town they'd be out of business. Also they touch the pizza with the same hands they touch money, would it kill them to use a simple spatula? Even tongs? Anything but money hands!!!!

  • Dennie C.

Donna is a good, solid local pizza joint that I go to regularly. The slices are good, price is decent and most importantly their sauce is spot on which to me is the key to a good pizza. I actually love their Calzones which are freaking delicious and monstrously huge which I never finish in one sitting. As for the racism claims I don't see it at all. I grew up all around New York around different people and cultures and my family was blue collar when I was growing up so I'm comfortable around anybody really. The vibe at Donna is no different than any of the dozens and dozens of pizzerias I've eaten at over the years.

The only slice I would order here is the Sicilian - if I was super hungry and couldn't drive 5 minutes to the next pizzeria. If you order a Sicilian pie, make sure to ask for extra crispy. Otherwise, the crust is really doughy and chewy. Of course you would be hoping and praying that they actually fulfill your request for an extra well-done pie (4 out 5 times they probably won't). The regular pizza is below average. Like most reviewers here have mentioned, the staff is rude and inattentive to non-caucasian customers. That's not an assumption, it's exactly what it is. Call it racist, prejudiced, whatever.. If your last name shows up on their caller-id as Kim, Lee, Park or Chung, FUHGETTA-BOUT-IT! Go elsewhere! Other recs: Baggios in Fort Lee - try the Margherita Brooklyn Pizza in Edgewater - if you're in the coal brick-oven kinda mood, this place won't disappoint. My favorite is "Porto by Antonio" in North Bergen - nothing compares to the wood-burning pizza experience. Everything I've tried here has been amazing. You can't order by the slice here but only a one-size pie (6 small slices), which I think is a perfect portion for 1 person.

Worst pizzeria around the area. Ordered 1 large pie and came out to $28. That's just ridiculous. And the girl on the phone either didn't know what garlic knots or garlic twists were because when I asked for them she said they didn't make any. I came to pick up my order in the 20 minute time frame they gave me and then continued to wait another 20 minutes in the pizzeria!! And then I saw the garlic knots with my own eyes right by the counter. The girl then passed the pizza to me without any "sorry for the long wait" or anything. What kind of customer service is this? Never ordering from here again. Their pizza was not worth the hassle.

The only reason this place is still in business is because it's the only pizzeria in pal park. The guy at the counter (who I believe is the owner) is an absolute worthless human being. He is beyond rude and it's mostly geared towards the Asians. I've seen him chat it up with other white people and even smile. But god forbid if he was just a little bit nice to the Asian people! He needs to get off his high horse.

Sometimes average is what you need. I've always had below average pizza in Jersey. Maybe it's cuz I'm from the city and I've had the best? Eh. This is long so scroll down to Pizza if you don't want to read my rant... First, let me get this out of the way, cuz it's important.... The first time I came here it felt weird. Like there was something thick in the air. People of color know what I'm talking about. The last time I felt this was was in Elk Head, Oklahoma. Right, so I just got off the bus from the city and needed a bite. The old guy at the counter was like, whatever... couldn't be bothered, lil grizzly, lil Jersey "who the fuck is you" kinda swag. Didn't say a word to me, other then "2.75". Talked to every other dude who walked in who was white and a few of them you could tell never been there. I'm like, who cares. Grabbed my slice and sat down. Killed it. Went up and asked for a Sicilian. Same thing happened again. Left and started walking to my friend's house. Now, this was the first time I'd ever been in this hood. And as I was walking I noticed that EVERYTHING on Broad Street was Korean. This was Korea town. And THEN it made sense. I'm one of those dudes who think there's a certain generation that just grew up racist and you gotta let it slide. They aren't changing. Ever see Do The Right Thing? That's what this place is. Been there forever. Last man standing. It's his place. He's Sal, but not as nice. Maybe he was in the Vietnam war and it's like the war all over again for him every fucking day in this neighborhood. Whatever. Fuck him. Give me my slice. Who cares. THE PIZZA: Good...enough. A lil too doughy, but still good for what I needed - quick, satisfying and a relatively cheap, just like his wife. The Sicilian is better which is ironic because I'm not a Sicilian kinda guy. I like my pizza like my women, super thin and sassy... I mean balanced with the right amount of sauce to cheese ratio that doesn't implode the crust with it's weight... Never had anything else on menu, but that's cuz I'm scared he'd spit in it. Verdict: This guy has the only game in town! Why did everyone in DO THE RIGHT THING keep going back even though Sal and his one son were racist? Cuz it was a good fucking slice ! Been going here every time I'm around this hood for 3 years now and he's still the same. There's no other option! Hey, as long as I can watch this guy heat up my slice and not spit in it, I'm good. Here's my money and I'm on my way. Thanks Sal! See ya next time you bitter bitch! The end.

Awesome pizza. Really hits the spot when you're craving a New York slice. I stopped in with my father, who grew up eating at Donna Pizza, and was happy to hear not much has changed. This is an old school pizza joint, people: haters to the left! I had 2 white slices with broccoli, my father had 2 slices of Sicilian. The white pizza was delicious from start to finish: thinnish, crispy crust, a bit garlicky (that's a pro in my book), the broccoli was perfect (crunchy but not overly), and the cheese....good god, the cheese. My father frowns upon sharing food, so I didn't get to try the Sicilian HOWEVER...there was a bit of melted cheese on the inside of the box from the Sicilian slices and yeah...I ate it. It was delicious and I regret nothing. Realizing they offer delivery makes it official I will NOT be ready for bikini season this year.

I love Donna's Pizza and recommend the Sicilian, regular pepperoni pie, and the Italian sub. I think it's just as good as any pizza in NYC. Tip: for better service don't talk to the staff

  • Stephanie R.

I've grown up with Donna pizza and have visited other pizzerias, so I can honestly say that this place is just average. If you want a simple slice with a beverage then this is the place for you. I have tried other pizzerias with better quality and at a more affordable price. I personally find their prices pretty expensive for pizza. The service is mediocre. Parking is a pain in the butt since they only have street parking. They do provide delivery.

Best pizza on the planet! You'll close your eyes when you have the first bite! Perfection! Ignore the other bitter people who gave hater reviews. This is REAL pizza! You'll love it! I've lived a block away for yrs and it's amazing!

Since moving to NJ it's been hard for me to find a place that makes pizza just as good as in NY. Sorry but it's the truth. I have tried many places in different cities and I actually stumbled upon this place while driving. I only had the broccoli slice and a plain slice and man it's just as good. The sauce is perfect , not too tangy not too salty just right, the crust is crunchy with that bit of soft dough in the middle and the cheese is gooey and oh so good!!! Can't wait to try it again and try one of their meatball sandwiches, they look delish!

    (4)
  • John K.

Get a plain slice, or 8. Can't go wrong. Not much to be said about the pizza - it's bread, sauce, cheese. I guess Donna's must have mastered the ratios/measurements of each, because their pizza is very good. There's a large place to eat in with all of your usual pizza condiments available.

    (4)
  • Ronald D.

Beware, the Godfather, John Gotti's brother serves you one of the best Sicilian slices in the NorthEast. Although the counter guy looks like the guy who puts up the signs that say "PAY when served," "DON'T talk to the staff," and "DON'T eat at the counter," he isn't. The actual owner looks less threatening. Anyway, I come here for the Sicilian and sometimes the slice. Both are excellent. The price point is a bit high for the slice, but understandable for the Sicilian.

  • D Y S.

I have been going to this place for more than 16 years. At least 40+ visits. Their mushroom pie is gorgeous and delicious Food 8.5/10 I personally feel that mushroom pizza they make here is one of the best pizzas. Taste of pizza truly makes up for mediocre customer service. I would still go back just for the pizza. Service 5/10 This is the last remaining Italian pizza place in the neighborhood. They seem to have a very strong affinity toward Italian who are extinct in the area. As long as you order through the phone or just go there for pick up it should be fine. Decor Back in 1998, it used to be a small pizza place with almost no seating. They expanded and now the place can accommodate a lot more people. Overall Pie used to be $14.75 but it is now $18. Mushroom pizza all the ways

I've been coming here for a long time and back in the day I used to think it was great. That was before I started eating pizzas from everywhere around the world (except Italy - dammit!). Bottom line, it's average pizza. Not bad, and definitely not great. I only get it when i'm really craving pizza and I don't want to go to Sonny's or Baggio's. Their sicilian is also average.

  • Deoroop M.

Acclaimed to be the best pizza in Jersey? Hmm, this definitely needs to be contested. Donna's Pizza is good. The crust was baked nice and crispy. There was an enjoyable and loud crunch that echoed throughout the streets with every bite I took. Mozzarella was abundant and oozing out once I decided to fold my slice for ease of eating. It didn't take very long to heat up, and that was surprising judging by the delicious nature of the crust. The only down side to this pizza was their sauce. Very robust and full of flavor but it was a little on the bitter side, which I'm not too fond of. This is in no way their fault, it's just my personal preference, which tainted my experience here. For my first authentic pizzeria visit in NJ, I'd say it was pretty decent. Need more pizza in Jersey so, I can make a decision comfortably. Right now, NYC still takes the cake. :-)

Pro: The only pizzeria in Palisades Park & anything remotely close to it. Cons: Very greasy, prices never seem to stay the same, always get my order wrong, very unfriendly, bad customer service. Stories: Sometimes when i order a pie and one topping it'll average out to $18, another time $25 (WTF?!) Usually they forget a dressing, or drink that i order which they have already charged for me. I've worked in the restaurant business so i understand things cant be perfect all the time, but every single time?? i mean come on. I got a pizza delivered and by the time i got it & opened the box the sauces, cheese and toppings were plastered onto the sides of the box. so i just ate a white slice...with a lot of grease.

  • Mick R.

The guy who works here is an old douchebag and their pizza sucks but seems to have alot of business because there aren't any pizzerias around and has some sort of history to the name. I'm sure this place was good 20 years ago when "Donna" wasn't an overweight light skinned Latino guy.

  • Chris R.

Sicilian slice was great. Spaghetti and white clam sauce was also good with a lot of clams, it was a big portion. The Italian Sub was really good and was huge! The bread was awesome. Staff was very friendly. We will be coming back soon.

Donna's has been a staple in my life for over 20 years. ..they have the best Sicilian slices I have ever eaten. ..hands down it's just amazing and perfectly balanced with dough, sauce and cheese...slices are good too but for the money I'd always so Sicilian....try one for yourself and tell me in wrong!!!!!

I love Donna's piizza. There are plenty of other great places to get a slice not that unlike Donna's, but I always end up coming back here. Cheap and easy ordering. Not the most traditionally charming service but I think the grumpy Italian guys at the bar are part of Donna's charm! The pizza is fresh and crispy always. To get the best experience, eat the slice in store. Sitting in a pizza box for the ride home definitely deteriorates the experience. Sauce is not too sweet and just the right amount of cheese. I usually stick with the regular but I love the BBQ chicken too! I've never really ventured out too far of the pizza realm beyond their Italian sub and caesar salad. It's just OK, stick with the pizza!

  • Alyssa G.

I have been coming here ever since I was born and the placed hasn't changed, which is actually GREAT to see in this town because everything has changed over the years. The guy at the counter may look mean but he's not, he's just an old Italian man working, he cracks a smile here and there. There a big difference with looking rough around the edges and actually having an attitude problem. And from personal experience he has always been nice, doesn't say much but nice. If your expecting a grand entrance for yourself the moment you walk in the door, it's not going to happen, however if you want the best Sicilian Slice this County has to offer, this is the place to be and that is what you will get! The other food here is okay, and the other slices of pizza and pies are average. But please do yourself a favor and try the Sicilian here, mint is out of this world! The great thing about this place is that is is clean and has a nice little pizza area to dine in. Prices are also amazing! They also do take out and delivery and are fast with their service.

I can put up with overpriced, terrible pizza, every once in a while... Especially when its the only pizza place within walking distance. But the workers here are ridiculously rude. And thats putting it mildly. All the negative reviews sum it up perfectly. This place is not worth it. Take your business elsewhere. I make sure I go out of my way to Fort Lee for my pizza.

Pizza

Pizza is a famous Italian dish savored around the world. The entire credit for the popularity of Pizza in the United States goes to the chain of pizzerias all over the country. While the base and the texture of Pizza remains same across the globe, it's the toppings that differs from country to country. In the United States, you will find the top pizzerias serving pizzas with the toppings of mainly beef, bacon, chicken, ham, and sausage for the non-vegetarians. Other than these famous meat options, Pizzas with veg toppings such as mushrooms, pepperonis, garlic, tomatoes, spinach, etc. are also famous in most restaurants in the United States.

Irrespective of your locality, you will find a variety of different restaurants in your cities offering pizzas of all different types. Pizza is hot favorite among people of all ages in the United States. A large size pizza is enough to feed a family of 3 or 4 at large. Pizza is also the most preferred food whenever a group of friends is hanging out together. Pizza gained popularity in the United States after the American soldiers stationed in Italy returned from World War II.

Over the years, different pizzerias in the United States have developed their own respective regional variations. Pizza gained popularity as the iconic dish in the United States in the second half of the 20th century. Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
